45 - Vrienden van Israël
Laatst las ik ergens dat het even simplistisch is te stellen dat iedereen die kritiek heeft op Israël een antisemiet zou zijn, als te beweren dat iedereen die sympathie heeft voor Israël een Zionist is.
Ik zal die zin zeker onthouden wanneer ik op diverse fora over Israël schrijf en daarna tal van mails ontvang die gaan van schelden tot doodsbedreigingen. Want ik heb nog niemand persoonlijk ontmoet die tegen israël is en niet antisemitisch is.
Daarom ben ik ook blij te mogen lezen dat Israël vrienden in Europese parlementen van 25-EU-lidstaten krijgt. Zij hielden "de Europese vrienden van Israël" boven het doopvont, schrijft De Standaard.
Ik heb er destijds mee voor getekend maar nadien niets meer over gehoord.

,,Dit is een historische gebeurtenis. Nooit eerder kwamen zoveel parlementsleden uit de EU bijeen als vrienden van Israël'', zei het Zweedse Europarlementslid Gunnar Hökmark, initiatiefnemer en de eerste voorzitter van de nieuwe vzw ,,Europese Vrienden van Israël''.
Europarlementslid en voormalig Belgisch staatssecretaris voor Europese Zaken Frédérique Ries (MR) is vice-voorzitter. ,,We hebben al ongeveer 200 leden uit alle lidstaten én alle politieke stromingen'', zegt Hökmark, die lid is van de christen-democratische Europese Volkspartij.
De Vlaamse leden van de organisatie zijn de VLD-kamerleden Stef Goris en Claude Marinower, de VLD-senatoren Paul Wille en Margriet Hermans en de onafhankelijke senator Hugo Coveliers.
In het bestuur zit ook het Nederlandse Europarlementslid Paul Van Buitenen, die in 1998 leden van de toenmalige Commissie beschuldigde van fraude. Op de openingsavond werden twee Europese commissarissen verwacht: Franco Frattini van Binnenlandse Zaken en Benita Ferrero-Waldner van Buitenlandse Betrekkingen: als sympathisant, niet als lid.
Volgens Hökmark is het hoog tijd dat Israël meer steun krijgt vanuit Europa, ,,maar niet ten koste van iemand. Dit is niet gericht tegen de Arabieren of de Palestijnen. Deze organisatie is alleen ten koste van hen die antisemitisme en haat prediken.
Wij komen op voor vrijheid, democratie en mensenrechten. Israël is de enige democratie in de regio.'' De doelstellingen van de Europese vrienden van Israël zijn verscheiden: het imago van Europa in Israël verbeteren, meer begrip wekken voor Israël bij Europese parlementsleden én de publieke opinie: ,,Ik hoop dat we de discussie kunnen definiëren zoals ze is: een ideeënconflict tussen democratie en totalitaire regimes.''
Vinden de leden dat Israël te veel gehekeld wordt in de media? ,,Er is een gebrek aan evenwicht. Er is een tendens om de schuld bij Israël te leggen, terwijl de alarmbel in Europa zou moeten luiden als we luisteren naar de antisemitische propaganda in de buurlanden van Israël. We willen duidelijk maken wat er op het spel staat in het Midden-Oosten.''
Eindelijk zal er dan misschien een beetje meer rechtvaardige informatie verschijnen dan tot nu toe het geval was. Maar meestal volgt de media de bias tegen Israël die gesteund wordt door linkse en pro-Palestijnse organisaties.

Ik heb enorm veel respect voor mensen die dezer dagen openbaar voor hun pro-Israëlische visie uitkomen. Jammer genoeg is het iets geworden waarvoor je veel lef moet hebben.
In een tijd waar pro-Islamitische en hielenlikkende media domineert en Socialistische democratieën de ondergang tegemoet gaan, zijn deze mensen de laatste hoop voor een Westerse overleving.

Despite the obvious fact that in every deep rooted conflict man should behave as humanly as possible,it is a complete falsification of the reality to deny the obvious fact that Israel is the only true democracy in the Middle East region implied in this conflict - and that region might expand some day, in fact: is "already" expanding during the last years, and rapidly.
I am a schoolteacher,teaching Dutch language and Dutch literature, somewhere in the Netherlands, and my pupils are between 15 and 19 years old - - and whenever I ask them this simple question: in what city would you "like" to be a prisoner, suppose you did something wrong during your holiday in the middle east, their answer is as predictable as it is, for me, understandable: rather not in Cairo, neither in Amman,neither in Teheran - but Tel Aviv or Jerusalem would be o.k., given the fact that my detainment is necessary.
People should be aware of this. And most of all: a continent as Europe should be ashamed,ignoring so often as it does, the history of the sjoah, and the centuries of persecution of the jewish people - and in them, of their moral standards. No jewish man or woman is perfect, as no Arab man or woman is - - but the true hatred in this endless struggle has become more visible than ever (except, perhaps, during the nazi's and théir ideology) bij means of the Al-Quaida movement.
It is my true conviction that the destruction of Israel might ultimately result in the (but just temporarily) diminishing of the Al-Quaida terror - like the nazi's whould have enjoyed the defeat of England during the battle of Britain in 1940. But they failed, the nazi's - and thank God for that.
No war is civilised. But the side you are on, should always be the side you truly respect, the side you want your children to tell about, when they get older - and not the side that uses children in battle and in media, to get the support it wants.
